Referendum, Schlein: “When the State kills a poet, as in the US, an impartial judge is needed”

Rome, Jan. 10 (LaPresse) – “When the abuse of force by the State comes to killing poets as happened with Renee Nicole Good, when it comes to this, and that government talks about self‑defense, you need an independent and impartial judge who can do justice. It is precisely the example of why this reform is risky for the citizens, not for others,” said PD secretary Elly Schlein, speaking at the launch of the campaign for the No vote on the referendum on justice reform, held at the Frentani Center in Rome.

“They shout about conspiracy, but I feel I must say that it is not the judges’ fault if this government does not know how to write laws,” Schlein added. “I want and must respond from here to Minister Nordio, who said he does not understand why Schlein does not see that if this reform passes it will also be useful to them if they come to government. So I want to answer him that this is precisely the point: we do not want it to be useful to us. We will win the next elections and we want to be held accountable,” the Democratic leader concluded.
