Rome, 19 January (LaPresse) – “Those who exercise jurisdiction have a duty to be impartial and to demonstrate impartiality in all contexts, including outside the workplace, to prevent the behaviour of individuals from jeopardising public confidence in the proper conduct of judicial activities. Moral rigour and high professionalism are the two elements that underpin the credibility of the judiciary.” These were the words of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, speaking at the Quirinale during a meeting with ordinary magistrates in training. ‘The guarantees of autonomy and independence of the judiciary are indisputable, precisely because they serve to ensure that decisions are taken according to the law and not on the basis of external factors such as conditioning, prejudice, influence or fear of retaliation or criticism. To make this independence effective, the Constitution has chosen the model of autonomous government of the judiciary,’ added the Head of State.
