School, Valditara: ‘Metal detectors are a security requirement, not repression’

Rivisondoli, 24 January (LaPresse) – ‘A boy is killed with a knife in a school’ and “we know that it is almost fashionable for boys to carry knives around with them. The first thing that comes to mind is mobile metal detectors to check entrances where the school is concerned and the headteacher and school community request it from the Prefect: the Provincial Committee for Public Order will evaluate and give the go-ahead. This is a requirement for safety and freedom. It is a guarantee for our young people, our teachers and school staff’. This was stated by Giuseppe Valditara, Minister of Education and Merit, speaking at the panel “Young people: the value of merit” during the Lega’s “Idee in movimento” (Ideas in motion) event, afternoon session, which is taking place at the “Aqua montis” resort in Rivisondoli (L’Aquila). “They talked about repression, I was incredulous, this is security, not repression,” he added.
