Referendum: Magi, Meloni contradicts herself on no vote for non-resident students

Rome, 4 February (LaPresse) – “Millions of Italians will be deprived of their right to vote in the referendum on justice, a slap in the face for democracy by the right wing. The majority has in fact said no to off-site voting in the election decree, contradicting what it has been preaching for years, namely to extend democratic participation to those citizens who live, work and study far from their actual municipality of residence. Meloni contradicts herself when she claimed to be the prime minister who had achieved what others had only promised by allowing off-site voting in the June referendums and European elections. It is unclear why the government decided to backtrack on this referendum: denying millions of Italians the right to vote on an important issue such as the separation of careers is a real anti-democratic short circuit’. This was stated by the secretary of Più Europa, Riccardo Magi.
