Iran, PD‑M5S‑Avs‑+Europa resolution: immediate cease‑fire and resumption of negotiations

Rome, Mar. 5 (LaPresse) – “Take, in all bilateral and multilateral settings, every useful and urgent initiative aimed at stopping the ongoing military actions, promoting with determination an immediate cease‑fire and a structured process of conflict de-escalation, in full compliance with international and humanitarian law.”

This is stated in the resolution signed by PD, M5S, Avs, and +Europa regarding the communications in Parliament by Ministers Tajani and Crosetto. The text commits the government to “firmly support the return to negotiations, encouraging the reopening of diplomatic channels and the involvement of competent international organizations, in order to reach a political and lasting solution to the crisis, particularly reviving the ongoing negotiations in Geneva, while safeguarding the prerogatives of the IAEA based on strict compliance with commitments and the necessary transparency guarantees by Iran.”

Furthermore, it calls to “work for the release of all political prisoners in Iran, starting with Nobel laureate Narges Mohammadi, respecting fundamental human rights, and to demand the immediate suspension of all death sentences, as an essential measure of legal civilization and protection of fundamental human rights, and to promote a peaceful and democratic transition in the hands of the Iranian people.”

Finally, the resolution appeals to “take all necessary diplomatic and operational measures to ensure the safe return of Italian citizens currently blocked in areas affected by the crisis, guaranteeing constant and adequate consular assistance.”
