Milan, 8 March (LaPresse) – Is motherhood still an obstacle in the world of work in Italy? “I’m afraid so, that’s how I’ve seen it. It’s been difficult to reconcile, difficult to find a balance. With very few exceptions, I don’t know any woman, no friend, who hasn’t told me that she hasn’t paid for motherhood in terms of her career.‘ This was said by Laura Mattarella, daughter of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in an interview with Tg3 broadcast at 7 p.m. She emphasised: ’On paper, we have full equality, but in reality, we still have a long way to go. The wage gap between men and women is a striking example. We have few women at the top, and they are seen as exceptions, so we have big headlines in newspapers and on television news about the first female president of the Constitutional Court, the first female president of the Court of Cassation, or the first female prime minister, and that’s right, but they are still seen as exceptions.”
