Meloni: ‘Ongoing debate on Hormuz, vital for our economies’

Rome, 11 March (LaPresse) – “There is an ongoing debate on what measures can be put in place to defend and guarantee freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. We all understand how vital this is for our economies. Clearly, when summaries and proposals materialise, I think that in this case too, we will have to consult with Parliament. It is a very delicate issue to find a balance between a need that is obvious and vital for us to defend our economies and the risk of being dragged into conflict. Obviously, the debate on this issue with our European partners and others is developing today.” This was stated by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, speaking in the Senate Chamber in response to the general discussion on communications ahead of the European Council meeting on 19 and 20 March and on developments in the Middle East crisis.
