Rome, 12 March (LaPresse) – “The reform is not for me, it is not for the government, it is for the citizens, for all citizens, even those who do not vote for me, even those who detest me, and if it does not pass this time, we will most likely not have another chance. Then we will find ourselves with even more powerful factions, even more negligent magistrates advancing their careers, even more surreal decisions affecting citizens that will impact your daily lives. Illegal immigrants, rapists, paedophiles, drug dealers released from prison who threaten your safety. Antagonists who vandalise your stations without any legal consequences. Millions of euros paid in compensation for wrongful imprisonment or spent on media trials and useless trials that are paid for with your tax money. Children being torn from their mothers because judges do not agree with their lifestyle if they live in a forest, when no one says or does anything about the reality of children being sent out to steal or beg’. These were the words of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, speaking at the FdI event currently taking place at the Teatro Parenti in Milan in favour of the Yes vote on justice reform ahead of the referendum on 22 and 23 March. “What we have on 22 and 23 March is an extraordinary opportunity, so you must not look the other way, not this time,” Meloni appealed. Do not stay at home, do not lose interest, it concerns you all, as individuals, as citizens, as a community. Because we are doing our utmost to modernise this nation, to turn the page, to enable it to amaze the world once again, but this time we cannot do it alone. This time we need you’.
