Fuel: Cabinet gives green light to emergency decree on price cuts: 25-cent reduction and anti-speculation measures

Rome, 18 March (LaPresse) – The Council of Ministers has approved a decree-law containing urgent measures to combat the rise in prices linked to the international crisis. The package is based on three pillars: an immediate reduction of 25 cents per litre, a tax credit for hauliers, and a new anti-speculation mechanism that links fuel prices to actual oil price trends. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni spoke of priorities: “We are cutting prices and combating speculation,” explaining that the aim is to prevent the burden falling on households and consumer goods. A system of checks and penalties is also planned for those who apply unjustified price increases.
