Iran, Conte: ‘Italy on a mission in the Strait of Hormuz? We can’t make up for Trump’s attack’

Milan, 19 March (LaPresse) – “We have now reached the point where we are getting our information either from Washington or, in this case, from London. We are being told from London that Italy would be taking part in this mission” to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. “We say absolutely not.” This was stated by the president of the Five Star Movement, Giuseppe Conte, on the sidelines of a meeting on the referendum at the University of Milan. “Trump has created this instability; he has carried out these illegal attacks. Let Trump solve the problem; he shouldn’t ask us to send our men, our ships, our resources. Italy must fight for every diplomatic effort to restore order, including international order. It must do so by restoring strength and dignity to politics and diplomacy. But there is no way we are going to go and remedy the destabilising initiatives and illegal attacks by Trump at this moment,” he added.
