Rome, 25 March (LaPresse) – Elena Chiorino has resigned from her post as vice-president of the Piedmont Region. She remains, however, a councillor in Alberto Cirio’s executive committee, and her portfolio responsibilities – Education and Employment – have been confirmed. A member of Fratelli d’Italia from Biella, Chiorino is also implicated in the Delmastro affair, having previously held shares – which she subsequently relinquished – in a Roman restaurant owned by Miriam Caroccia, the 18-year-old daughter of Mauro Caroccia, who was definitively convicted by the Court of Cassation for acting as a front man for the Senese mafia clan. “I am a strict and upright person: I committed a serious error of judgement which I cannot forgive myself for, but which I committed in absolute good faith. And for this I apologise to the public. My way of apologising is to step down and return the most important of the responsibilities assigned by the president, namely that of representing the institution in his absence.” So said Elena Chiorino on her resignation from the vice-presidency of the Piedmont Region.
