Almasri case: House of Commons gives the green light; appeal to the Constitutional Court over “immunity” for Bartolozzi

Rome, 1 April (LaPresse) – The Chamber of Deputies has approved, by a margin of 47 votes, the motion to refer a conflict of jurisdiction to the Constitutional Court concerning the Ordinary Court of Rome – the Panel for Ministerial Offences – and against the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the same Court, concerning Giusi Bartolozzi, former chief of staff to Justice Minister Carlo Nordio, who is under investigation for making false statements to prosecutors in the Almasri case. The Chamber is thus asking the Constitutional Court to extend to Bartolozzi the immunity already voted for by the Chamber for Ministers Nordio and Piantedosi and Undersecretary Mantovano. The request for a secret ballot, put forward by the opposition, was not accepted.
