Housing plan, Meloni: “Cabinet approval for a measure that is close to our hearts”

Rome, Apr. 30 (LaPresse) – “Today the Council of Ministers approved a substantial and comprehensive measure, which is particularly close to our hearts and addresses one of the most felt priorities among citizens, namely the issue of housing, or the possibility of accessing quality, affordable housing—housing as a primary good.” This was stated by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during a press conference following the Cabinet meeting. “In detail, the housing plan is based on three pillars. The first provides for an extraordinary programme of interventions for the recovery and maintenance of the existing stock of subsidised public residential housing, what we commonly call ‘social housing,’” the premier explained. “Our goal is to make around 60,000 housing units available that today cannot be allocated because they are not in suitable condition to be assigned to citizens. For this purpose, we are allocating €1.7 billion, plus up to an additional €4.8 billion currently included in urban regeneration programmes, which can also be used for this purpose and distributed to municipalities via decree of the Prime Minister, following consultation with ANCI.”
