So said Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, speaking at the Confindustria Assembly being held in Rome. “A bureaucratic giant,” she added, “which has all too often sacrificed competitiveness, growth and strategic vision on the altar of ideological and technocratic approaches, helping to push the continent towards a progressive economic and geopolitical decline, a Europe that is unstoppable in its ability to multiply rules on every aspect of daily life, yet hesitant, all of a sudden, when it comes to making its voice heard in global affairs. The crises have shown us just how short-sighted the idea was of a Europe that thought it could limit its role to that of a trading platform, in an almost passive position between America and the major Asian players, leaving control of the key nodes of the value chains to others.”
