Rome, 2 June (LaPresse) – On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Republic, the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, paid tribute to the monument to the Unknown Soldier at the Altar of the Fatherland in Rome. The Head of State, accompanied by Defence Minister Guido Crosetto, inspected the guard of honour lined up in Piazza Venezia and laid a laurel wreath in front of the shrine of the Unknown Soldier. Present at the ceremony were the Presidents of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, Lorenzo Fontana and Ignazio La Russa, the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, and the President of the Constitutional Court, Giovanni Amoroso. The occasion was marked, as is traditional, by the playing of the national anthem and a flypast by the Frecce Tricolori.
