Rome, 2 June (LaPresse) – “The 6.2-magnitude earthquake recorded during the night, with its epicentre off the Tyrrhenian coast of Cosenza at a depth of around 250 kilometres, was felt across much of Calabria, understandably causing fear and concern among the public. From the very first minutes following the seismic event, the regional Civil Protection service, led by Director Domenico Costarella, sprang into action to monitor the situation and coordinate all necessary checks across the region.” So said Roberto Occhiuto, President of the Calabria Region. “Our operations centres received a huge number of calls from citizens seeking information and assistance. Fortunately, as things stand, there have been no reports of damage to people or property,‘ he explains. ’During the night, the Crisis Unit also met with the National Department of Civil Protection, whom I thank for their usual promptness.” Occhiuto extends ‘special thanks to the head of the Department, Fabio Ciciliano, for his immediate involvement and the constant support provided to our Region. The meeting was also attended by the Regions of Puglia and Sicily, where the earthquake was clearly felt’.
