Milan, June 19. (LaPresse) – “President Trump’s attacks on Prime Minister Meloni are unacceptable and must be forcefully rejected. We do not accept attacks or insults directed at the government of our country and we will continue to defend Italian institutions. We expect, however, that the right in this country will do so and begin to do so more, and that they will understand how wrong the strategy of a submissive attitude towards Trump and this American administration was.” Democratic Party Secretary Elly Schlein said this on the sidelines of a debate at the FIOM 125th anniversary party in Bologna. “An attitude,” he added, “that not only failed to deliver results, but also damaged the national interest. It was seen on tariffs, on 5% military spending, on the illegal wars wanted by Trump and Netanyahu and it was also seen on the Board of Peace on which they circumvented the Constitution. Well, we hope that after today’s deplorable episode, this government and this right will finally open their eyes to the fact that that strategy has been a failure and a completely different approach is needed in this country’s foreign policy.”
