After all, even before her, he insulted the Pope.” So said Senate President Ignazio La Russa in an interview with *Corriere della Sera* regarding US President Donald Trump’s attack on the Prime Minister. “For Trump,” La Russa stated, “it is clearly the case that anyone who does not kowtow to him deserves to be humiliated. Otherwise, why would he have done such a thing? Mistakes of this sort are not made in relations between states.” The President of the Senate says he is certain that Meloni did not ask for that selfie: “It’s impossible – like seeing a donkey fly.” Did she tell you so? “No,” he replies, “but I know it for a fact. I know her far too well. I’ll take any bet. I’ve said I’ll eat a live chicken if it’s proven that she ever begged – not Trump, but anyone in the world, not even her loved ones. If anything, she may well have done the opposite’, that is, ‘shown herself to be his equal. That certainly might have irritated Trump. It’s possible that’s how it went’.
