Rome, 20 June (LaPresse) – “Every year, millions of people are forced to leave their homelands, fleeing armed conflicts, humanitarian crises, persecution and violations of the most basic human rights. This is an alarming reality, a trend that recurs cyclically, almost as if it were an inevitable fate, the result of tragic developments in relations between states and between peoples. History – the history of Europe and of the international systems established after the Second World War – bears witness to the fact that these are not irreversible trends, but that it is possible to counter them with the logic of reason and the power of peace.” This was emphasised by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, on the occasion of World Refugee Day.
