Rome, 22 June (LaPresse) – Exactly 80 years after the first sitting of the Constituent Assembly, the Chamber of Deputies at Montecitorio will host a solemn ceremony to mark the anniversary, featuring an address by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, and opening remarks by the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Lorenzo Fontana, and the President of the Senate, Ignazio La Russa. The event will be broadcast live on Rai 1, organised by Rai Parlamento, and on the Chamber of Deputies’ satellite channel and web TV, from 10.15 am with the reception for the Head of State and a visit to the exhibition “1946: The Birth of the Republic: The Constituent Assembly at Montecitorio’, set up in the Sala della Lupa itself, where the results of the 2 June referendum on the choice between monarchy and republic were announced. This was announced by Montecitorio. From 11.00, the ceremony will take place in the Chamber of Montecitorio. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Giovanni Amoroso, President of the Constitutional Court, will be in attendance. Following the speeches, the orchestra and choir of the Rome Opera House, conducted by Maestro Michele Mariotti, will perform a repertoire of works by Verdi. Journalists and media representatives may register for accreditation until 5.00 pm on Wednesday 24 June. Please also note that on 25 June, access to the press area in Piazza Montecitorio will only be possible via Via degli Uffici del Vicario, with entry to Montecitorio via the nearby Via della Missione 4.
