Labour, Schlein: “Low wages steal purchasing power and do not help growth”

Padua, Jul. 4 (LaPresse) – “Unfortunately, we are a country with some of the lowest wages in Europe. ISTAT tells us that wages have fallen by 9 percentage points over the past four years, while in the same period Italians, when going grocery shopping, have seen food prices rise by 25%. This means stealing purchasing power from Italian families and not supporting growth,” said Democratic Party leader Elly Schlein on the sidelines of her arrival at the 19th national congress of UIL at the Padua Fairgrounds. “Economists also say it: with this level of inequality and such low wages, it is a brake on growth. That is why the growth strategy that the Democratic Party is presenting these weeks is based on three main pillars,” she added.
