Rai Oversight Committee, Rome, 9 July (LaPresse) – In an identical letter to the Speakers of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, the PD, M5S, AVS, IV and Azione parties have called for a meeting of the group leaders regarding the Rai Oversight Committee. The letter states: “Under the current circumstances, we do not consider it possible to proceed with the appointment of new members to the Committee. The reconstitution of the body requires, in fact, preliminary and unequivocal political initiatives on the part of the majority and the Government, aimed at removing the causes that have led to the current deadlock, starting with the immediate transposition of the Media Freedom Act, as an essential step towards bringing Italian legislation into line with European standards regarding the independence and pluralism of public service broadcasting.”
