Milan, 14 July (LaPresse) – “This afternoon, a vote will be held on the amendment – proposed by Fratelli d’Italia and supported by the majority parties – to introduce preferential voting into the electoral law, as many, including members of the opposition, have called for. At this stage, I believe we need to get to the bottom of this, to understand whether those parties that have long been calling for citizens to be able to choose their own MPs are doing so out of conviction or merely to make a mockery of the Italian people. There is only one way to find out: the amendment must be voted on by open ballot and not by secret ballot. I challenge the opposition not to call for a secret ballot.” This was posted on Facebook by the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni. “Everyone must take responsibility for their own vote and stand by their decision before the Italian people. Yes to preferential voting. No to secret ballots,” she concludes.
