Rome, 14 July (LaPresse) – “We gave it a go. The quagmire has won out once again. We tried to reintroduce preferential voting into the electoral law after more than 30 years of closed lists. We called for an open ballot, so that everyone would stand by their vote, but the opposition insisted on a secret ballot.” Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni wrote this on Facebook. “The amendment was rejected by a single vote. A missed opportunity for Italians, but it was right to give it a go,” she commented.
