Rome, 17 July (LaPresse) – “The death of Alice, the 11-year-old girl who was sucked into a swimming pool drain in Sestri Levante, highlights the urgent need – which can no longer be put off – to make public and private swimming pools in Italy safe, without any ifs or buts. In the last three months, there have been as many as five deaths of children in swimming pools. Strict regulations are needed, but so too is greater caution in never leaving children unattended in the water. The Meloni government’s bill, aimed at achieving this objective, will be approved by the relevant committee within the month, and we will do everything possible to ensure it is fast-tracked.” This was stated by the Minister for Civil Protection and Maritime Policy, Nello Musumeci, who co-sponsored the proposal alongside the Minister for Health, Orazio Schillaci.
