Milan, 22 July (LaPresse) – “I found Mayor Lepore’s idea of naming the square in the wake of that tragedy to be irresponsible, given that there had not even been a chance to establish who, if anyone, was responsible.” This is what Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated in an interview with *Il Giornale*, commenting on the sit-in organised in Bologna in memory of Abderrahim Fakir, the 42-year-old Moroccan man who died on Sunday 19 July during a police operation in the Pilastro district of the Emilian capital. “It was clear that this decision would have come across as a pre-emptive condemnation of the police and provided an excellent pretext for the usual suspects from the social centres and the anti-establishment movement to run Bologna ragged, fuel social unrest, attack the police and sow violence throughout the city,” added Meloni, “It is also very thought-provoking that the left did not take to the streets in any significant numbers to express solidarity following the death in the line of duty of a law enforcement officer.”
