Milan, 25 July (LaPresse) – “The Minister of Justice, Carlo Nordio, was not aware that an appeal had been lodged with the Court of Cassation, at the Ministry’s instigation, against the order issued by the Supervisory Court concerning Dr Gianni Alemanno.” This is reported in a statement from the Ministry of Justice, according to which “in announcing the launch of an internal investigation – to ascertain who is responsible – into what appears to be a bureaucratic error within the Department of Prison Administration, the Minister will ensure the immediate withdrawal of the appeal and invites Dr Alemanno to a meeting at the Ministry, at his convenience”. “We would also like to take this opportunity to announce that, for several days now, the Minister’s Office has been conducting a preliminary inquiry to review the system for calculating space per prisoner in cells, as suggested by Dr Alemanno himself, who has shown a very commendable interest in the situation in Italian prisons,” concludes the statement from the Ministry in Via Arenula.
