Rome, 25 July (LaPresse) – “Today we have witnessed yet more scenes of violence against the police, following those recorded in recent days. This confirms that certain individuals are determined to provoke an escalation that demands our utmost attention. My full solidarity goes to the police officers, the Carabinieri and the Finance Police who stood up to the violence of these hooligans, especially those injured in Val di Susa, and I thank them for the service they perform every day to safeguard security and the rule of law. If anyone had underestimated it, what has happened serves as further proof that there are those who regard violence as a legitimate tool of political opposition and who see the law enforcement agencies as their prime target. This is probably also because they have realised that we will not back down in our defence of democracy. This is why a united, clear and unambiguous stance is needed from all political forces and institutions. Isolating those who fuel violence must be a shared duty, regardless of political affiliation. Otherwise, these criminals will become convinced that they can count on complacency and tacit approval of their subversive violence.” This was stated by the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi.
