Rome, 27 July (LaPresse) – “The Council of Ministers’ mountain has given birth to a new mouse: despite this being the third intervention in the space of a few months, the government has failed to go beyond the usual stopgap measure. Once again, it has steered well clear of the structural causes of high energy prices.” So says Davide Faraone, vice-president of Iv-Casa Riformista, regarding the measures adopted by the Council of Ministers on fuel. “Do Meloni and her ministers really think that a discount of a few cents – and only on that – until 6 August is enough to help families, business owners and hauliers cope with the increasingly unsustainable costs of energy? It borders on provocation. This ridiculous outcome is also the result of the ever-deepening divisions within the majority. The only thing missing was a row over cigarettes, an age-old tax. Once again, the government has shown that it prioritises party political manoeuvring over the problems faced by Italians,” he concluded.
