They should simply apologise.” Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni wrote this on social media, commenting on the remarks made by the secretary of the PD, Elly Schlein, regarding the Ranucci case. “18 October 2025. Speaking at the PES Congress in Amsterdam, Elly Schlein declared: ‘I wish to express my solidarity with Sigfrido Ranucci, because a bomb was found outside his home yesterday. Democracy is at risk; freedom of expression is at risk when the far right is in government.’ 27 July 2026. On a TV programme, Elly Schlein herself claimed: ‘I have never made any connection between the government and those behind the attack’,” the Prime Minister recalls, adding: “For months, she and other left-wing figures have been spinning a narrative built on allusions and insinuations, even going so far as to cast a shadow over Italy in front of an international audience. Now that what was obvious has come to light – namely, that the government had absolutely nothing to do with it – the PD secretary has even gone so far as to retract her own words, claiming she never made any such connection. Words carry weight. Even insinuations do.”
