Rome, July 30 (LaPresse) – “The majority does not want to allow access to the documents and chats submitted by the Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office. As President, however, I have a duty to safeguard the right of all members of the Committee to examine the documentation in order to have a complete picture. There is no reason why the Committee should deny itself such access, albeit within the usual limits on disclosure. Therefore, also in light of several precedents, I will authorize the offices to allow access to the documentation starting tomorrow morning, so that viewing can be organized under non-disclosure rules. The Committee has never restricted its own access. There are precedents to this effect, and I do not intend to undermine the rights of Committee members or violate parliamentary prerogatives.” This was stated by Devis Dori, President of the Chamber Committee on Authorizations, at the end of the Committee’s Bureau meeting. Committee members will only be allowed to examine, starting tomorrow at 10 a.m., the CD containing the documentation sent by the Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office, which is expected to include the material filed by the defense of restaurateur Mauro Caroccia, whose chats with Delmastro could prove essential — as has been argued — for investigative purposes, including to safeguard the rights of the suspect. Dori himself reported this at the end of the Committee meeting, explaining that Lo Voi’s new request was submitted because there is “a need to verify the correspondence between what was filed by the Defense and the device seized” from Caroccia. “Most likely on Monday, or at the latest Tuesday, the Committee will hold a meeting with votes. The proposal by rapporteur Pittalis and the two announced minority reports will be examined. On that occasion, the vote will not concern the authorization itself, but whether to proceed with a supplementary investigation following Prosecutor Lo Voi’s request or to go directly to the Chamber,” Dori concluded.
