Italia Viva and +Europa, for example, were left out of that agreement. An agreement from which, in my opinion, Carlo Calenda should not be excluded either.” This was stated by Lia Quartapelle, vice president of the Chamber Foreign Affairs Committee and PD lawmaker, in an interview with Corriere della Sera, regarding the PD-AVS-M5S resolution calling for defense spending not to be financed through budget deviations. “I do not think we should continue in this way. Conte is against Europe for the wrong reasons. I instead criticize Giorgia Meloni’s indecent attitude towards Spain and I believe we must renew and strengthen Europe through a common foreign and defense policy and therefore through the Safe program. This is why we voted in favor of Safe, which allows us to incur less debt in order to finally begin making common investments in defense,” she said, noting that “the ‘narrow field’ was a collection of easy slogans, not an alternative government proposal to the right.
