This is according to the Corriere della Sera, which refers to a dossier provided by the intelligence services to the Italian government. The report – it is explained – is also said to be based on information shared by Spanish intelligence services in recent hours. Furthermore, intelligence services in Rome are reportedly monitoring social media activity ahead of a new attempt to enter the Spanish exclave, which could take place by 15 August. “Let’s strike on the 10th, not the 11th. There are demonstrations planned for the 9th,” reads a message in private WhatsApp chats shared by the monitored Facebook groups. From the discussions analysed, “a trend to bring forward the date” of the new mass migration is already evident. The confidential information that has reached the government also mentions various points of departure. According to the intelligence services, the organisation “cannot be attributed at present” to a specific actor, “but there is also another cause for alarm, namely that of human traffickers who – as explained – are ready to profit at the expense of many desperate people.” Finally, fears that the mass migration may also conceal the recruitment and radicalisation of terrorists are underlined by the fact that in Fnideq (Castillejos), a few kilometres from Ceuta, the area “has often been the subject of joint counter-terrorism operations between Spain and Morocco to dismantle cross-border jihadist networks”.
