Rome, 10 Aug. (LaPresse) – “Today, looking beyond Italy’s borders, Sky UK has reported that not 5, but 75 of those who arrived in Spain from Morocco have reached the mainland, and another issue of this kind is expected in the coming days; the Italian government is therefore right, at the League’s urging, to suspend Schengen and check who is entering our country”. So said Deputy Prime Minister and Lega secretary Matteo Salvini, interviewed on Rete4’s ‘4 di sera’ programme. The minister then turned his attention to relations with Berlin regarding the migrant issue: “Is a new front opening up with the German government as well? No, they are in trouble at home and so they are attacking the Italian government – this applies to both Madrid and Berlin. I call on our friends in the Spanish government to defend their borders with Morocco, and on our friends in the German government to recall the German NGOs that shuttle irregular migrants to the Italian coast.” “ ‘I was on trial for six years because of a Spanish NGO that sought to disembark hundreds of illegal immigrants in Italy,’ Salvini recalled before concluding: ‘Spanish NGOs should go to Spain, German NGOs to Germany, and Dutch NGOs to the Netherlands. Italy will no longer be Europe’s refugee camp.’
Salvini: “Berlin must recall the NGOs; Italy will never again be an EU refugee camp”
