Migrants: Piantedosi says, “We will only lift the suspension of the Schengen Agreement once any security risks to Italy have been ruled out”

Rome, 13 Aug. (LaPresse) – The government’s sole objective “is to safeguard national security. This is why we are closely monitoring how the situation develops and, as the government has already announced, the decision to suspend the application of the Schengen Agreement will not be reviewed before 15 August, and in any case only once any security risks to Italy have been completely ruled out”. This was stated by the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, during a hearing before the Parliamentary Committee responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Schengen Agreement, overseeing Europol’s activities, and supervising and monitoring immigration matters.
