Milan, 16 Aug. (LaPresse) – “The extremely serious theft at the Peloritan Regional Interdisciplinary Museum of works attributed to Antonello da Messina – artefacts of exceptional historical and artistic value – is a blow not only to Sicily, but to the nation’s entire cultural heritage.” This was stated by the Under-Secretary for Culture, Pietro Cannella. “I have every confidence in the work of the police and law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation, and I hope that those responsible will be identified as soon as possible and, above all, that the stolen works will be recovered,” noted Cannella. “Faced with an incident of such gravity, the protection of our heritage requires the utmost cooperation between all the institutions involved, because defending works of art means safeguarding the memory, identity and history of our national community,” he added.
