Rome, 21 August (LaPresse) – Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni met today in Taranto with the President of the Republic of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun, on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the 20th Mediterranean Games. During their talks, the two leaders discussed the situation in Lebanon, the progress of negotiations with Israel and the scenarios surrounding the gradual withdrawal of UNIFIL, scheduled for 2027. Prime Minister Meloni reaffirmed Italy’s support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace with Israel, confirming Italy’s willingness to host further rounds of negotiations between the two nations.
