If the content of this draft were confirmed, we would be faced with a decision as serious and worrying as it is incomprehensible, that is, to allocate fewer resources precisely to the territories that have fallen furthest behind, especially in the Mezzogiorno, where there is 19 per cent coverage as against a national average of 31.6. After reducing the number of nests to be built with the PNRR, the government continues to cut resources as well. We, on the other hand, want to multiply nurseries throughout Italy and make them accessible, to combat inequality and educational poverty, and because they are a fundamental support for families in balancing life and work. Giorgia Meloni knows full well that when nurseries are lacking or inaccessible, the burden of care remains on families and disproportionately on women. Even after the record low birth rate of 2025, Meloni continues with empty rhetoric about supporting the family, while doing exactly the opposite of what Italian families need”.
