Rome, 31 Aug. (LaPresse) – “The political judgment and that of my M5S community” on the Report affair “is that, faced with a Europe that asks us to distance political control from the broadcasting system and service, instead we have systematically seen, under the Meloni government, the spaces of politics in public and also private information increasingly occupied. The result is that today 90% of public and private information is controlled directly and indirectly by this government, or in any case by this majority, and above all, as regards the public radio and television service, the situation has now become truly very, very delicate because with the schedules they have announced, they have prearranged every space in such a way as to create an electoral campaign setup.” This was stated by M5S leader Giuseppe Conte, a guest on ‘In Onda’ on La7. According to the former prime minister, however, “the investigative space was still obviously available, Report, which has always annoyed all politicians. The result, instead, is that they have now managed to destroy Rai’s flagship programme thanks to the Meloni edict. It is a disgrace because it is also a completely arbitrary decision. At this moment, given the state of the investigations, we have an established victim, who would be Sigfrido Ranucci, and we have Rai’s top management, which has taken a decision to destroy a programme.” “I will limit myself to saying that Rai’s top management, which has so far demonstrated the utmost incompetence, has managed to destroy the highest-rated programme, and moreover we are talking about a particular type of programme, namely investigative television journalism, which has very little space, requires a great deal of effort and energy, months and months of work, professionalism and expertise, which are now destroyed. And so it is also serious financial damage to the state, as well as damage to the quality of our information, and therefore to our democracy,” Conte concluded.
