Rome, 1 September (LaPresse) – “We want genuine preferences to give voters back their choice, so no to closed lists.” So said the PD group leader in the Senate, Francesco Boccia, who, at a press conference held jointly with the M5S, AVS and IV, explained the opposition’s position, which calls for a dual gender-based preference system with 50 per cent of list leaders being women across the board. The joint amendments also provide for the removal of the designation of the prime ministerial candidate and an increase in the threshold for the majority bonus from 42 to 45 per cent.
