But for Giovanbattista Fazzolari, this milestone should not be a source of pride solely for the majority and centre-right supporters. “This record does not belong solely to the Meloni government; it is an important record for the whole of Italy, one that everyone should be pleased about,” the undersecretary explains to LaPresse, emphasising that “a nation with stable governments is a mature nation, capable of making strategic decisions for the medium and long term, and this is a great advantage for the country as a whole”. In short, for this powerful Meloni loyalist, the break with a past characterised by fragile governments should also be cause for celebration for those who have criticised Meloni and her team from the outset. “Stability means strength and credibility on the international stage and in the state’s relationship with the financial sector and major economic interests,” Fazzolari emphasises once again, responding in this way to those in the opposition who argue that what will be celebrated tomorrow in Puglia is an empty record: “It is true that stability without concrete results would be meaningless. That is why we are very proud of the many achievements we have made, starting with the creation of 1.3 million stable jobs, the rise in wages following years of declining purchasing power, the narrowing of the North-South divide, the growth in our exports and the crackdown on mass illegal immigration”. A milestone, then, for the Under-Secretary responsible for implementing the government’s programme, but also a starting point with a view to the final stretch of the parliamentary term: “We will continue to work to implement, step by step, the programme that the Italian people have endorsed”.
