The woman’s father’s appeal was as follows: “I ask the entire political class to stand united. Take measures unanimously, without right or left, so that tragedies like Lorena’s never happen again. Work in schools, strengthen anti-violence centres and the legal instruments needed to take action so that this never happens again. I ask you with all my heart.” “Franco Isceri’s words deeply affect us all. As a husband, father and grandfather, I feel I owe him a concrete response,” Tajani wrote on X. “We are aware of the enormity of the abomination behind every story of femicide, a criminal offence that was introduced for the first time precisely during this parliamentary term. As far as I personally and my entire party are concerned, I fully embrace Franco’s appeal in the name of his daughter Lorena, yet another victim of a completely distorted idea of love understood as possession, which is the exact opposite of true love,” the deputy prime minister continued. And he added: “We have done a great deal as a government and as majority forces, but much more still needs to be done to spread a culture that truly respects women and conveys an awareness of the horror of a mindset that inevitably leads to violence and, in a dimension that remains unacceptable, to femicide.”
