Rome, 8 Sept. (LaPresse) – “These images show two officers being attacked and injured whilst carrying out their duties during the arrest of an individual. The man, charged with assault, resisting arrest, contempt of court and causing bodily harm, is brought before a judge: the arrest is upheld, but he is nevertheless released a few hours later. There are an increasing number of incidents where decisions undermine the work of those who strive every day to ensure the safety of citizens, often putting their own safety at risk.” Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni wrote this on social media, posting a video of a man assaulting two police officers in Rome, near Termini station. “The Government will continue to strengthen safeguards and resources for the police. But when, following behaviour of this gravity and an assault on those who represent the State, the perpetrator is released within a matter of hours, it is not merely difficult to comprehend. It is frankly unacceptable, because it undermines the credibility of the State as a whole,” she added.
