Rome, 17 Sept. (LaPresse) – On 17 September, the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, will visit the ‘Stanza rosa’ in the A&E department of the Misericordia Hospital in Grosseto. The visit, it is understood, is linked to the recent and extremely serious cases of femicide and violence against women. Mattarella’s decision to visit the ‘Stanza rosa’ is, in fact, highly symbolic: it was there, in 2009, that the ‘Codice rosa’ originated – a protocol dedicated to the care of women who are victims of violence, minors and people in vulnerable situations or victims of hate crimes. The Code sets out precise procedures for raising the alarm and activating subsequent local support pathways, with a view to providing a continuum of care and comprehensive support. The experience gained in Tuscany – which became a regional project in 2011 and a clinical network in 2016 – contributed to the drafting of the National Guidelines (Prime Ministerial Decree of 24 November 2017), which remain the primary reference for the organisation of support pathways in our country.
