Rome, 16 Sept. (LaPresse) – The Council of Ministers has approved the abolition of road tax for small and medium-powered cars, those largely used by families for daily travel. This is according to sources at Palazzo Chigi. The exemption, as explained by the same sources, also applies to motorbikes, but each citizen will be entitled to only one concession. The measure covers all motorcycles and over 70 per cent of cars currently on the road, totalling around 14.5 million vehicles. It is emphasised that the measure aims to ease the tax burden on car or motorbike ownership for a very large number of Italians. “Today, the Government is scrapping one of the taxes most hated by Italians,” commented Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
