School, Mattarella says it is open to all and must bring people together; no to ghettos and barriers

Rome, 21 Sept. (LaPresse) – “School is the most effective means of integration for those coming from other countries and for young people born in Italy who are the children of emigrants. School prepares everyone – ‘It is open to all’: this is what Article 34 of the Constitution stipulates. It must forge bonds, win the trust of families, help prevent the formation of ghettos and the erection of barriers, make our communities safer, unite rather than divide, and overcome the walls of mistrust and lack of communication. Schools are called upon to foster social cohesion.” So said the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, speaking during the ceremony to mark the start of the school year in Amatrice.
