(LaPresse) – “On 23 September 1943, at the age of just 22, Deputy Brigadier Salvo D’Acquisto took the blame for an alleged attack – which he had not committed – in order to save 22 innocent people who had been rounded up by the SS and were to be shot in retaliation. I often think of how much courage and faith must have been required to make such a choice. Salvo D’Acquisto put the lives of those 22 innocent people before his own, without hesitation right to the very end. Eighty-three years after his death, his example continues to remind us just how great a sense of duty and love for others can be.
