Milan, 10 Oct. (LaPresse) – “Ensuring the right to mental health is upheld, guaranteeing every individual the opportunity to be listened to, treated and supported, wherever they live and whatever their circumstances, is a matter we cannot avoid”. This was stated by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, on the occasion of World Mental Health Day 2026. “Mental health,” he said, “cannot be reduced solely to the healthcare dimension. It concerns the quality of the environments in which we live, study, work and grow up, and requires an approach capable of identifying distress before it worsens, by bringing together families, schools, health and social services, and communities. Investing in mental health therefore means preventing, treating and supporting, whilst at the same time supporting families and those who, day in, day out, stand by those in vulnerable circumstances. It means, first and foremost, recognising the value and dignity of every person.”
