Rome, 12 Oct. (LaPresse) – “Leadership roles in the private and public sectors, in essential services and in emerging sectors, form the backbone of a society that wishes to remain in control of its own future. This is the alliance of labour, which, in our Constitution, underpins the universal nature of human rights and, at the same time, the duties of political, economic and social solidarity – the paradigm of our way of life. An alliance that must look to the future and, therefore, to young people. Europe is the context, the space in which to conceive of ourselves and take action. Awareness of this reality is essential for strengthening that European social model which no one intends to abandon, and in support of which consistent decisions are required from the institutions.” So said the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, speaking at the ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Italian Confederation of Executives and Senior Professionals (CIDA), currently taking place at the Auditorium della Conciliazione. “Your role as part of the fabric of the Republic has meant, for executives, paying a heavy price at times. This happened during the era of terrorism, when the Red Brigades targeted certain executives in an attempt to dismantle the cornerstones of our way of life. Our thoughts go out to Pietro Coggiola, Carlo Ghiglieno, Manfredo Mazzanti, Renato Briano and Giuseppe Taliercio, who were murdered because they were reduced to symbols by a ferocious ideological delusion. Italy would soon defeat terrorism thanks to its civic values and its unity. That fundamental unity must not be allowed to dissipate, even when acrimony and substantive disagreements take centre stage.”
