Rome, 22 Oct. (LaPresse) – “The government, through Minister Salvini, has signed an agreement in recent hours with the road haulage associations, with which we have always had discussions, whom I thank for the collaboration that has never been lacking in these difficult months. Those that have been signed are not promises, they are resources that are already reaching the sector”. This was Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s statement in a video message on social media following the Council of Ministers’ approval of the decree law containing “urgent provisions and support measures for the road haulage, agriculture, and fisheries sectors.” “The Ministry of Transport has already begun paying – the Prime Minister emphasizes – and in the next few days businesses will receive the down payment on the diesel tax credit from March to August 2026, which we cover in full. Checks will be done later because those who work cannot sit still waiting for bureaucracy. Starting in November, we will also release back payments for sea transport, refinance the tax credit for September-October 2026, adding an additional €106 million to the €434 million already allocated in recent months, and give more time, until March 31, 2027, to use these credits. We also envisage another package of measures requested by the associations the Minister has met in recent hours, such as the possibility of moving forward the payment of leasing fees or the mandatory adjustment of certain types of contract, the least protected ones, to the cost of fuel. These are answers that must come immediately, which is why we have convened a dedicated Council of Ministers today, today, not in a month”.
